Officials Say High Dose Flu Vaccine Recommended For Seniors

Flu season has arrived which means it's time to start getting vaccinated. While almost everyone is at risk of contracting the flu some groups are more susceptible than others like young children, pregnant women, those with medical conditions, and seniors. While getting a regular flu shot is a good option for everyone, it's recommended that seniors, those 65 and older, get a high dose flu shot instead. High dose flu shots are slightly more expensive than a regular flu shot. The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department charges $49 for the high dose shot and $30 for a regular flu shot. Officials say both versions of the vaccine are covered by most insurance companies and Medicare.
