Burglary investigation and arrest

(LONDON, KY.) – On Thursday, September 27, 2012 at approximately 1:12 AM, the Kentucky State Police received a report, from the Whitley County 911 Dispatch, of an activated alarm at the Canada Town Market on KY 204 West in Whitley County.

 

Upon arrival Troopers Tony Dingess and Les Moses discovered the front door of the business was broken into. While investigating the Burglary, of the business, an anonymous tip was received that a person was seen running from the business to a residence across the roadway. Upon following up on the tip Troopers Dingess and Moses observed blood outside the residence and observed a male subject inside that had blood on his person. Troopers made contact with Wayne C. Marcus, 32, of Corbin and discovered coin money inside the residence that was also covered in blood. Marcus fled from the troopers on foot and was apprehended, after a brief struggle, a short distance away.

 

Marcus, who was injured during the Burglary, and Trooper Dingess, who was injured during the incident, were treated and released from the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin.

 

Marcus was arrested and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center on the charges of Burglary 3rd Degree, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (on foot), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (police officer), Assault 3rd Degree (police officer), Resisting Arrest, and Theft by Unlawful Taking (from a building).

 

Trooper Dingess is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by Trooper Les Moses and Sergeant Bill Elliotte.

Theft at National Guard Armory

(LONDON, KY.) – On Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at approximately 1:00 PM, KSP Detective Richie Baxter arrested Christopher L. Bunch, 32, of Corbin, on the charge of Receiving Stolen Property under $10,000.

 

The charge is the result of a two month investigation into the theft of military equipment from the local National Guard Armory in London, KY. Detective Baxter has recovered several of items that were reported missing.

 

Bunch was lodged in the Laurel County Jail.

 

Detective Baxter is in charge of the investigation.

Animal Cruelty charge

Sheriff John Root is reporting that Laurel Sheriff’s Greg Turner, assisted by Senior Sgt Greg Poynter, Deputy Greg Turner, Deputy Robbie Grimes, and Deputy Steve Hoskins received information that there were several dogs being starved to death on Earl Howard Road, 11 miles south of London on Tuesday evening(9-25-2012) at 6:43 P.M. When deputies arrived at the scene, they located 7 dogs belonging to the home owner. 2 dogs had their ribs visibly showing, 2 dogs had no water, and none of the seven dogs had any food. Two of the seven dogs were puppies and were found inside the residence with the mange. Laurel County Animal Control personnel were called to the scene by sheriff’s deputies, and All 7 of the dogs were removed from their owner. Arrested was: Vincent E. Masur age 44 of Earl Howard Road, Keavy charged with 7 counts of Cruelty To Animals, 2nd Degree, and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Facility.

Domestic Dispute on Maple Grove Road

Sheriff John Root is reporting that Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Hoskins, and Deputy Josh Scott responded to a 911 complaint of a domestic dispute in progress on Monday night(9-24-2012) at 8:45 P.M. on Maple Grove Road, 5 miles west of London. Upon arrival, deputies could hear both persons involved inside the residence screaming at each other. Hearing the ongoing dispute, Deputies made entry to the residence, observing broken glass from the television, and learned that the male subject had struck his girlfriend in the face causing injury near her eye. As the male subject was being placed under arrest, he became combative(stating he was not going to jail) and attempted to fight the deputies. As the altercation continued, a 3rd deputy(Deputy Greg Turner) arrived at the scene, and the male subject was subsequently taken into custody. Arrested was: Emanuel Hoskins age 38 of Maple Grove Road, London charged with: Assault 4th Degree, Resisting Arrest, Assaulting a Police Officer(3rd degree), Possession Of Marijuana, Menacing, and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree- two of the deputies had their uniforms and equipment damaged while effecting the arrest of the subject, and two deputies received minor injuries from the scuffle while arresting the male subject. Emanuel Hoskins was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Facility.

 

The female subject was also arrested because it was determined that she had struck the male subject in the neck during the domestic altercation. She is identified as: Ada Nantz age 42 also of Maple Grove Road, London charged with Assault 4th Degree(Domestic Violence). She, too, was lodged in the laurel County Detention Facility.

DUI Arrest

Sheriff John Root is reporting that Laurel Sheriff’s Senior Sgt Greg Poynter observed a male subject run a stop sign at Bolton Ridge Road, and Campbell Road, 7 miles south of London on Saturday night (9-22-2012) at 8:37 P.M. Deputies then observed the vehicle , a gold Jeep Cherokee, travel into a ditch. Deputies conducted a traffic stop , and following an investigation determined that the driver was under the influence . The subject admitted smoking marijuana. Arrested was: Ellis Smith, Jr age 55 of Highway 229, London charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, 1st Offense, and Disregarding A Stop Sign,. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Facility. Deputy Robbie Grimes assisted on the investigation, and arrest.

London man arrest for assault

Sheriff John Root is reporting that Laurel Sheriff’s Senior Sgt Greg Poynter, and Deputy Robbie Grimes were dispatched to complaint of a male subject fighting and slapping his passenger inside a moving vehicle on American Greeting Road, 10 miles south of London, on Friday afternoon 9-21-2012, at 3:09 P.M. When deputies arrived at the scene, they learned that the vehicle had pulled off into a business parking lot, and that the male subject had grabbed his passenger, threw her onto the ground, and slapped her in the face. (The passenger was the girlfriend of the male subject) Arrested was: Garrett W. Turner age 53 of Maple Grove School Road, London charged with : Assault 4th Degree, and lodged in the laurel County Detention Facility.

Domestic dispute on Locust Grove Rd.

Sheriff John Root is reporting that Laurel Sheriff’s Senior Sgt Greg Poynter, Deputy Robbie Grimes, and Deputy Greg Turner responded to a domestic violence complaint on Locust Grove Road, 13 miles south of London , in the Keavy community, on Thursday evening (9-20-2012) at 6:26 P.M. Upon arrival, they learned that a male subject had allegedly threatened his wife because she had awakened him to eat, and he became angry, and punched her in the face, and grabbed her arm. Deputies noted bruises on her arms, and a red mark on her face. Arrested was: Frank Bores age 47 of Locust Grove Road, Keavy charged with Assault 4th Degree, and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Facility.

Fatal Traffic Crash

Upon arrival Trooper Shaler Jones determined that a 2002, red, Dodge, Caravan operated by William Leo Lynch, 94, of Whitley City, had been traveling southbound on US-27 when it suddenly crossed the center line, the northbound lane and the northbound shoulder striking a large tree head on.

 

Lynch was seat belted at the time of the crash and there were no other occupants or vehicles involved.

 

No autopsy is scheduled at this time and the exact cause of the crash is pending the findings of the McCreary County Coroners Office.

Drug and / or Alcohol usage is not suspected.


Trooper Jones in continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Officer King of the KY Department of Fish and Wildlife, McCreary County Coroner Daniel Ridner, the McCreary County EMS, the North McCreary Fire Department, and the Pine Knot Fire Department.

DUI Arrest

Sheriff John Root is reporting that Laurel Sheriff’s Senior Sgt Greg Poynter , and Deputy Robbie Grimes were dispatched to a complaint that a male subject had taken a blue Ford Explorer without the permission of the owner, on Wyatt Road , 4 miles south of London , on Friday night at 6:40 P.M. When deputies arrived at the scene they observed the blue Ford Explorer traveling down the roadway, and then come to a stop, and the driver exited the vehicle without putting it in park, causing the vehicle to roll forward, and almost causing the driver to be thrown down. As the deputies investigated, they were told by the driver(who appeared to be under the influence) that he was test driving the vehicle. Deputies learned that the driver’s story was not true. Arrested was: David W. Wagoner age 31 of Hopkins Cemetery Road, Lily , Ky charged with: Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle 1st Offense, Operating a Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence, 1st Offense, Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverages Container in a Motor Vehicle, and numerous other traffic offenses. He was also charged on numerous failure to appear in court charges related to Alcohol Intoxication, Assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, terroristic threatening, and assault 4th degree. ,He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Facility.

Shooting on Memory Lane

Sheriff John Root is reporting that Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Daryl Zanet is investigating a shooting which occurred early Sunday morning(9-16-2012) at 12:01 A.M., on Memory Lane(off Bob Deaton Road),7 miles east of London. Deputy Shawn Boroviak, and Deputy Josh Scott responded to a shooting complaint on Memory Lane. Upon arrival, deputies had to break up an active fight that was occurring in their presence between two male subjects. Deputies learned that there had been an argument resulting in a fight between a man(Paul Wagers)and his step father, Alton Smith. Apparently, both men used weapons and fired shots at each other prior to deputies arriving at the scene. . During that altercation, the son’s mother attempted to intervene, and she was shot in the hand. Arrested at the scene was: Paul Wagers age 48 of Memory Lane, London charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Alcohol Intoxication in A Public Place. Two persons in serious condition were airlifted from the scene to UK Med ---Alton Smith with head and face injuries, and his wife-Ethelene Smith with a gunshot wound to the hand. Cause of the altercation is under investigation. Alcohol involvement is suspected.
