During their weekly update on Kool Gold’s London News Now, the Laurel County Health Department reported that respiratory illnesses, including COVID 19, RSV and influenza are beginning to decline, but are still occurring at a higher than normal rate. Public Services Supervisor, Tyler Caldwell, said from January 29th to February 2nd there were 34 new COVID 19 cases and 1 new hospitalization. Caldwell said flu numbers are still declining, but the CDC expects another uptick. Caldwell said other than staying up to date on vaccinations, it’s important to practice preventive measures like washing your hands, covering your coughs and sneezes and staying home when you’re sick.
