London Police Public Information Officer Hobie Daugherty says Officer Mikey Ashurst received a report of a suspicious car driving through a neighborhood with its lights off. Officer Ashurst was able to find the car, and noticed it swerving over the white line. The officer pulled the car over, but while he was getting out of his cruiser, the driver, later identified as 34-year-old Christopher Philpot, drove away. After a short chase, Philpot reportedly turned into a field and ran on foot. When Officer Ashurst caught up to Philpot, he started fighting. Officer Ashurst was able to gain control of Philpot long enough for other officers to arrive and assist him in placing him under arrest. Philpot was charged with assault on police officer, resisting arrest and a host of traffic offenses. He was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
